Injector balance testing...
In my continuing quest to fix my bad idle I have read much of the service manual and it is now time to perform a balance test on the injectors. I have a fuel pressure gauge that Auto Zone loans out but they do not have the tester that pulses the injector so you can log the amount of pressure drop.
No one has one, not even my buddy who owns a full service shop doesn't have one. I really don't want to spend $50 on something I may never use again. Anyone know of a way to make one or where I rent one?
Thanks! I love this site and my car even though it's driving me nuts...

Re: Injector balance testing...
The important thing with the injector balance test is being able to turn the injector on the SAME number of pulses every time. If it doesn't do this repeatably, the test results (fuel pressure drop) is worthless. IMO, it would cost more than $50 to make one.
Have you tried a DIY auto parts store for a rental?
I've seen these on ebay for under $30 but they ship from China: http://www.all-sun.com/EN/d.aspx?pht=1131

You could send your injectors in and have them checked. Chances are you could have the Multec injectors which are notorious for going bad. Even the Bosch injectors go bad, but not like the Multecs do. If you have some bad injectors, that would be a good time to order a set of Bosch III's for it. Just thinking out loud here.

I'll admit that I'm not that familiar with a balance / pressure drop test unless I'm looking for a leaking injector. However I can visually see what's going on with an injector on my flow bench's. IMHO, the best way to test balance, inductance, leak down and consistency, is to have the set tested professedly off the car in the shop. Happy 4th, Frank
