Who can explain how the air pump valve is operating ?
Who can explain how the air pump valve is operating ?
Hello
Can anyone explain how the smog pump exactly work?
At which condition passes air through the valve ?
How is that valve controlled ?
Does the O2 sensor correct this additional amount of O2 ?
I think about removing this stuff but i am not sure about the influence on the Fuel/air ratio.

Since the pump is belt driven, it is pumping air any time the engine is running. The two valves are controlled by the ECM. It goes to one of three places:
1) Exhaust manifold - the air goes here when the engine / O2 sensor is cold. AKA open loop. The extra fresh oxygen would throw off any O2 readings, therefore AIR vs O2 readings never go together.
2) Catalytic converter - someone else will have to identify the conditions the ECM directs air to the cat.
The air pump will not influence the fuel/air ratio. It is purely emissions related. Depending on location, you may need it to pass inspection to register your car. And/or any potential future owner will want it for the same reason.

When the ECM is on closed loop mode the air injection-reaction (A.I.R.) pump output should be switched to the Divert position to route air to the converter aspirator pipe. When in open loop mode the output should be switched to the Port position to route air to the exhaust manifold pipes. When in decel mode in closed loop air should be dumped to atmospheric vent instead of the Divert position to prevent overheating of the catalytic converter.
