Smog pump delete 1986

Hi all,
I decided to delete my smog pump and associated lines. My question is, on the air diverter valve there is 2 plugs (pics attached).

When I unplug these the car won't start and it throws a code. I have not read the code, but I figured someone has encountered a similar problem. What do I need to do with these two wire plugs?

Unplugging the diverted valve has no effect on codes throwing or starting.
You must have a wiring issue that's being disturbed when the diverted wires are moved.

Iirc the wires run next to fusible link wires that route over the front of the engine down to the starter hot lug.
