350 5.7l South Bay injector install , clips?
350 5.7l South Bay injector install , clips?
the old injectors have those little clips but the new ones dont have the groove to fit the old clips
should i just toss the clips?
..also im installing the injectors cause i cant get both fuel lines detached from the the fuel rail. Any advice for the one under the water pump ? its too low i dont have any good tools for it.
i really want to get the rail out to work on it on the bench, ive been working on the rails for 30 min with gas fumes directly in my face.

With proper Soutbay replacements you dont need the clips. Install into the intake first and then the rail clicks on top. I did this without having to remove the fuel rail- you can lift it enough to do it all.

I also did NOT use the clips. .....I think installing manifold first is just for aftermarket manifolds??? I don't have the instructions handy, but I seem to recall stock manifolds can be rail first, then manifold. That's how I how did mine, and I had no problems.

Southbay states that you should install into the manifold first no matter what intake manifold you have. you do not need the clips since the taller injector height allows the fuel rail to suck down on top of the injectors once the fuel rail is bolted down. also use dish soap and lube the o rings, I installed mine a month ago and kept having to pull the rail off due to pinched o rings creating a leak.

I could not get mine to work manifold first. Kept getting leaks at the rail. Finally went rail first.....no leaks, no issues. - Just my experience.

I installed these injectors about 3 months ago. Removed the radiator hose that runs from the top of the radiator to the water inlet connector over the thermostat. Also there is a bracket on the passenger side of the alternator that looks like shield or guide track for the serpentine belt. Removed that. Also the serpentine belt. After that was off I was able to use the open side of a wrench loosen connections and pull out. Took a little awhile but that worked for me.

Also I didn't re-use the old clips. My injectors came with instructions stating that re-using the clips wasn't necessary. Installed into the manifold first, then rail, like the instructions. No leaks or issues and its been at least 3 months now.

if you think about it...bosch made those injectors without the grooves for the clips. Reason being you have at least 43lbs of pressure holding them in place. That pretty much goes for most injectors
Re: 350 5.7l South Bay injector install , clips?
thanks. yeah i installed them last week without the clips theyre working good now!
seems like there are no grooves for the clips so they are not necessary
i dont see why they need them in the first place.

I am trying these injectors out now - installed manifold first, turned key, and on 14psi fuel pump, gas goes everywhere lol

leaking fuel from the rail side is an installation/oring issue. Did you lubricate the upper orings before installing into the rail? We actually recommend liquid dish soap.

I did lubricate them. I believe I used a dab of 0w20, whatever I had laying around at the time. I set them in the manifold first, set the rail on top, and felt them snap in place (although it took a lot of force for a few of them to seat).

Re: 350 5.7l South Bay injector install , clips?
It shouldn't take that much force. They should "pop" in a bit to the rail and then, as a set of four per side, pop down into the manifold. It takes some finesse. As a prep, when I did mine, I used hand pressure on the rail and as I pressed down, I swung the injectors back and forth a few times each to make sure they were seated all the way in before I tighted the rail bolts down.
And it's not the fuel pressure that holds the injectors in, its the rail and rail bolts on top of them. I imagine you that if you turned the fuel pump on with the injectors seated and hanging from the fuel rail (ie not into the manifold) one would pop out like a rocket.

yes, the rail and the bolts once tightened will hold the injectors however once everything is pressurized you still have at least 43lb of pressure holding everything in place. If they are still leaking then either one of the orings has a tear in it or it kind of folding down on itself when it went into the rail. As tootie pang said it shouldn't take that much pressure to seat them into the rail. I'm telling you...try liquid dishsoap if you have it

Cyl 5's injector's rail gasket was crushed. I had a stash of gaskets and used a new one and seems to be good now. Thanks

BTW southbay, should the injector settings in the ECM should be the same as the stock settings? I am referring to the 22lb injectors
