WIRING HELP...

So I'm in the process of getting ready to try and get the 383 in my 91 fired up after almost 6 years of hibernation. Been looking it over this weekend trying to refresh my memory as to what odds and ends I need to button up. One thing i found was I needed to extend the wires for the coil to distributor connection because I had modified the mounting bracket. Well I noticed something just didn't look right, so I looked under the hood of the IROC. This is what someone had done on the 91. Is there a reason someone would have cut and spliced these like this? Car always ran OK before with it like that. Should I change it back to factory, or leave it? The 2 wires from the distributor are only supposed to go straight to the coil aren't they?

Re: WIRING HELP...

That scotch lock can cause issues over time. The only reason I could see taping onto the white wire would be for a aftermarket tachometer.

Two wires go from the body to the coil pink and white. A jumper goes from the coil to the distributor. This is a tach and icm power.

Re: WIRING HELP...

Exactly. On the IROC the pink and white go in one side of the coil then other side of coil to the distributor. The car does have an aftermarket tach and that's what the scotch lock connector was running to. Maybe whoever put the tach in cut the wires to install it and went back later not just not put it back together right? I think while I'm in there with the soldering gun I'll put it back to factory?
