Hi all,
Have an 86 TA where the air duct that runs to the throttle body is damaged where it mounts up against the throttle body. This creates a noticeable vacuum leak and makes the car surge. Found the part on fleabay, but a new one runs $135 and that seems nuts for some rubber. My guy at Buick said no dealers have it in stock. P/n is 10037612.

I've attached a picture of the damage. Any ideas on replacement or repair?

Could probably duct tape it temporarily to see if the surging problem goes away.

If it does, I think I have one laying around. I'll PM you if I find it and can sell to you for a lot less than Ebay...

 

Check out some of the businesses that sell DIY turbo and intake stuff, like Silicone Intakes. They will have reducing cones and all manner of tubes/pipes.

 

I checked my garage... I don't have it... I must have gotten rid of a while ago and forgot.

Aynway, in my PM I sent... that e-bay link has ones that are half the price you found... Greg's suggestion is also a good one if you don't want to deal with another ~30 year old piece... probably a little cheaper too...

I got a complete 88 tpi parts car but can't remember what it's in. On my way to Disney for a week so won't know till I get back.

 

The 85-87 TPI Firebird piece is specific to those years. Later Firebirds and all the Camaros use different parts. The oval shaped outlet on the air box is the catch.

I've got one off my 86 T/A I'd part with for $60 shipped. It's in very good condition. I've been meaning to list it in the classifieds, but never really get around to it.
