Need Help! With Speed Sensor
Hello everyone, I'm having a somewhat unique sensor issue with my car's transmission speed sensor and I'm hoping to get some input from more knowledgeable sources other than myself. So I did a 1991 Speed Density TPI swap; Engine, ECM, wiring Harness into an older 83 Camaro. The swap was relatively basic except I am still using the Dashboard and original mechanical Speedometer from the 83 to keep the interior looking basically factory (I repinned the cluster connectors). Since I still need all the info the VSS provides from the 700r4 for the car to run efficiently, I was looking at the:
Passenger Car Speed Sensor, # 4PAC Integral Sleeve (5th one down)
Since that one provides an input for a mechanical speedometer and has the correct 91 TPI 4 pulse signal, I believe that is the correct sensor for my application.
My main point of confusion is that the source burning my new memcal chip is recommending the Speed Sensor, # 4PAC (3rd one down) which doesn't seem to have any input for a mechanical speedometer cable. The 700r4 is not original to either car but I believe did come from another Camaro/Firebird.
I've been tinkering with this car the last few years trying to get it to run reliably and believe I have backtracked alot of the issues back to this sensor problem. I don't think the mechanic who did the swap (nor did I at the time) realized how much info that that sensor provides to the 91 Speed Density ECM beyond just the correct speed for the speedometer and I think he compensated for the engine stall issues this can create by upping the idle RPM significantly.
Anyway, I just want by car to run right and I need to get it back on the road as soon as possible and any input on the matter is greatly appreciated! I don't have the time or ability to swap in a 91 Dash and cluster at the moment with winter here so I'm hoping that my issue can be resolved by installing the correct sensor, I just need to know which one!
