Temp guage sensor and wire

So since I've had my car 87 GTA the coolant guage hasnt worked. I assumed coolant temp sensor so I went ahead and replaced it. Started it up and let it run but the guage still wasnt working. Spelunking through the forums I found that the guage sensor is on the driver side with a single green wire. Found the sensor and found the wire. However the wire was cut ( not by me ) and was just tucked back into near the firewall. Can anyone give me a bead on where this wire runs from so that I cant get my guage functional. I appreciate any assistance.
