Fuel pressure regulator

Would a missing or broken regulator screw allow fuel to be drawn into the spring side of the regulator? Asking for a friend, lol.

That would probably occur only if the diaphragm were damaged. A missing screw from the cover perimeter would probably allow an external leak before admitting fuel to the vacuum side of the cover.
