There is another post about stock L98 times here so how about you LB9 guys. Stock only times please. It will be good to see the real world difference between these engines.
hey hey, first timer here, anyways i have a LB9 wanted to show off a bit. haha..
anyways when my car was bone stock i managed to rattle off a 14.8 in the quarter @94 mph.. not to shabby but like i said that was bone stock.. now i have a bunch of mods done and i have yet to take it to the track.. i had a few guyz tell me i'd be running between a 13.8-14.0 in the quarter when i get my headers and pullies on there and then some low 13's when i put the NOS on it next month. it'll be pretty funny when i smoke them LS1's and then tell them i have a 305.. hehe
oh well, i guess i'll find out soon enough when the track opens though.. but i've had a couple races like last month or so against two 94 Z's, both friends, i wasted one of them and the other i had him at my bumper up to 65-70 and then my 85mph his rear wheel was at my front wheel.. not bad, i'm happy still, but with my headers and pullies i'll get him haha.. peace mike..

HEY
I HAVE A 1985 IROC Z CAMARO WITH A 305 TPI. MY CAR IS PRETTY MUCH ALL STOCK. THE ONLY MOD ON THE CAR IS A CHIP. MY CAR HAS A 3.42 POSI REAR END AND IT RUNS THE 1/4 MILE IN 15.2 @ 90MPH NOT BAD FOR A STOCK CAR. I AM GOIN TO GET SOME SLP HEADERS, AIRFOIL, K&N FILTERS, AND MAYBE SOME UNDERDRIVE PULLYS WITH ALL THESE MODS I SHOULD BE RUNNING MID 14's
PEACE

ya, mine it does sound a bit quick for a 305 but i'll admit its one of those freak cars from the factory.. its always been quick since i got it, its only got 40k miles on it.. plus the LB9's r naturally hotter engines, i'm not sure which u have the LB9 or LO3.. but everybody that watched me run still harasses me telling me i got a 350 and not a 305.. oh well, i ran the numbers and all so its lagit.. peace..

94mph translates to roughly 280 horsepower in such a car, which is about 90 more than advertised for a 305 tpi. Plus it is an automatic.

this is for my 89 T/A LB9 t-5 w/ 3.23 gears... only mods are, 180 degree stat, manual control fans, a K&N and drag radials... times in sig... they are at near sea level ambient temp 65-75*F...

What's your problem? My vert ran 90mph stock, and we're talking the heaviest thirdgen made w/ 2.73s anda tiny cat. With just dual cats and the ported plenum it went 93.6. Originally posted by rezinn

And i can assure you i'm nowhere near 280hp. You need to step away from calculators and bench racing and drive.

TBI heads have cast-in swirls that produce some nice torque but kills the top end power.
If its a 5-speed LB9 it benefitted from the bigger cam. (well after '90 all the LB9s got the L98 cam correct?)
Comparing a stock TBI injection to a stock TPI injection the TPI is more powerful. Modified though; either system can make more power than the other.
Thats about it. The TBI car was plagued with horrible parts from the factory and the TPI had a few more benefits; but nothing significant. (and people wonder why Mustang 302s are so fast; they received top notch stuff from the factory)
P.S. I have seen a '91 LB9 1LE car go 14.6
The best I could manage with my '86 TA in cool air was 15.87 @ 84. It's a bone stock driveline with 2.77 Borg rear, stock heads, cam, no real mods to speak of. That's all with a 2.2 50' time, too.
Vader, mine ran a best of 15.5@88 completely stock.
88mph seems to be its happy speed, hit that all the time.
I have a few magazine tests that show trap speeds at 92mph. I suppose 94 is possible with a better running car or better traction.

hey i hear some u's r in denial about my best time at the track, believe me its not bull at all, completely lagitamit.. and i forgot to add in that my best 60' time was a 2.01.. i hate when people make up stories so believe me i wouldn't make this up.. ha.. but whatever if u wanna see it urself then come out to my home track only this year i'm gona be posting 14.0's or high 13's all motor with the mods i have.. look at my sig ^ scroll up, and with the NOS i'll be mid to low 13's.. believe it or not, i dont car, i'm even gonna post my timeslips wheni get them.. if i can fine my timeslips from this summer i'll post it for u all for proof.. later ya'll. mike

My '89 IROC was stock except for MSD wires, tune-up, removed air baffles in intake, and I think I pulled the back screen off the MAF. LB9 5 spd. AL drive shaft/drums, Car had 30k miles in '98. Run at strip using 10 year old 245/60r15 tires that were harder plastic!
Best ET of 14.4 sec 1/4 @ 96 mph
Veh weight was about 3500 lbs.
Traction was a bitch with the poor tir

Before I bought my 92 L98 I looked at a 91 Z28 LB9 w/ T-tops but passed as the 92 was more what I was after. My buddy however picked the car up and it had 305 DEAD stock down to the paper filter, all factory stuff including wires and exhaust and had 60k on the clock and he went a best of 15.2 and I want to say the MPH was around 92 but dont quote me on THAT. He had 2:73s, custom built box with subs and 2 Pheonix Gold amps and all related harware and it had T tops and leather and was auto so it must have been on the heavier side as far as Z28s go and still turned in a decent times but it was in good weather. He only went the one time and not too long after he wrecked the car so he never got a chance to run better times, Im betting without the stereo equip and more practice 15.0s and high 14s werent far off...
My cousin had a 91 TA 305 auto t tops, he added K&N,airfoil, Flowmaster and 3:73s and it was a factory alum DS car and it went 14.9s so as far as I know these cars are high 14s sec capable but see 15.0s-low 15s quite regularlly unless you get a 5spd and an experienced driver, I would figure high 14s to be the norm to mid 14s....

I am glad so many people are writing in about this. I was worried I was slow. My first time to the track, ever, my '91 Z28 G92 (3.42 rear) 305 TPI 5 spd, completely stock, 45,000 miles, ran a 15.2 at 94 mph. That was with a horrible 2.547 60' time, but my excuse was that it was my first time. One of the times, I was almost beat by a 2000 Grand Am GT - I thought I was going to get embarrassed, but pulled it out.
I hope that is another data point for you. As stated, it looks like high 14's to mid 15's is the going time for stock.

89 GTA 305 5 speed, ~80,000 miles with just a flowmaster muffler(not cat-back) and a non-stock filter box, I ran a 15.4 @ 90 or 91.
Headers and a chip brought that down to a 14.6 at 96.

The best time from my '86 TA was actually a time my friend got when I let him take a run. 15.61@86. Bone stock driveline with 2.77 borg rear, stock heads, stock cam, no real mods to speak of. That was with a TH350 transmission and well over 200,000 miles on the engine. Originally posted by Vader

I have a 355 in there now with a 700R4 again finally. Mods are in the signature and track times are to come this summer when our track finally opens. 13.9 and I'll be grinning ear to ear but I suspect I'll get better times than that.

well, i have a stock LB9 305 tpi...at least, for the next few weeks i do....my best time...which seems to be very consistent has been 15.640 @ 87-89 mph.....seems to do the exact time just about every run......from other guys at the track, that seems to be pretty much average time for the 305 tuned port.....only mod i have is a flowmaster 3 inch cat back and a high flow convertor.....other than that, stock right down to the pep boys air filter and 2.73 gears....hope that helps!!

Bone stock 85 IROC LB9 with 3.42 gears - 15.7 @ 87mph. Couldn't get the tires to hook up for some reason that day. Should of been faster!!

Yeah, with that 700R4 and those 3.42s you should have at least gotten 15.4 I would say. You might have gotten even better if you had the T5 since the only gears they put in the '85 IROCs with T5 was the 3.73 gears.Originally posted by irocrob

Well I just pulled out the Ol G-Tech for some times. With 115 pounds of stereo equipment I clicked off a 15.1 at 96. Air temp was 31 degrees. Now I know the trap speed is off but I feel the E.T. is prett close. Only mods are a Hooker cat-back, K&Ns, and custom ramair.
nice guyz, nice times!! now lets see what some of ur best 60' times r with the stock LB9..?? my personal best is a 2.012, my buddyes LS1's that day had a best of 1.98, i wasn't to far behind. hehe but his ET was 13.48 (all stock).. ok lets not go into LS1's.. list ur stock LB9 60' times..

Well, with 153k miles on it, and its still a peanut cammed 305 with a 6-spd and 3.42's with little bolt-ons, my GTA will run right with my friends stang. It runs 14.3's at the tracks. I'm hoping for at least a 14.5 this spring... I want a 14.0 b4 I pull it, I think it will do it right now. It still runs strong, but smokes! lol

I have an 87 iroc 305 , with 5 speed and it went 15.2's, with one of those stupid hypertech chips in it which made it run really rich, then after an afpr it went 15.0, since then i have put the stock chip back in and was left with no choice but to put new gears in(broken ring and pinion) had 3.45's now have 3.70's and am waiting to see what it'll do.

With a good launch you can do 14.8 without beating on it badly.

see alot of people are listing that they went 15.0's-15.2's wtih a 2.5 60' time, if u had a short time like mine 2.01, u'd kill my ET, so my ET's not that unrealistic, plus i understand mr.Moderater Ed has a faster ET then i do all stock, so if u wanna call BS on me u have to answer to him lol..

Well my Vert pulled a 14.51 @ 94.64 with a 2.144 60'. Its a 92 convertible Lb9 5 speed, at the time just had the headders, chip, and hooker cat back and a factory 3.45 9bolt. Those times were also run on a slipping clutch and some knock retard up top (not sure how much, but now Im getting 16* of retard now and cant break a 14.7) but thats besides the point. Once all is squared away and shes running right, I really believe theres a 13.9 or better in her, as long as I can drive it to the best of my ability!

The best I can manage so far with the 1985 305TPI is in the sign. I pulled a 2.5 60ft time. Withe a 2.3 60ft time I could be at 15.1 or 15.2 corrected. Where I live the air is crap. Last time I went to the track the allitude correction was at 4400ft above sea level. In that weather I ran a 16.3@84.7.
Not bad. It runs the same as everyone elses. I need to get the 60ft time down and it will be good. I also have taken out the performance chip and it seems to run a bit quicker, I am still waiting tell the weather cools of to take it for some more.

I don't have any stock times but 14.63 with K&N's, cat-back and AFPR. 2.2 60 ft. SEE SIG FOR OTHER DETAILS
Now I've got headers and a custom Y-pipe. Gonna put some stick tires on and ice the plenum. Hoping for a 13.9.

Thats amazing how a couple of u guys can pull 60ft times in the 2.0 to 2.3 range. For those of u that pull these 60ft times with stock LB9s how did u do that. I can only manage a best of 2.514. Thats junk compared to urs. What launch technique did u use and what do u find the best way to launch a LB9 is...
Thanks

well i got mine because i have to feather the gas out of the hole because my posi is not working
so i have a slow 1/4 mile time but once i know i wont spin my car takes of
just makesure you dont spin your tires and you will run a fast 60'
im sure that when i get my posi fixed and im able to use my 2500 converter that my 60' times will get higher but my 1/4 miles toimes will get lower
