last autumn i drove GTA to the garage and engine stopped by itself. i tryed to restart but it didn't wake. i didn't mind about it that much because it stopped just to a right place. i closed the doors and left it there till today.

today i tryed to start it again with fresh battery. start motor works just fine, but engine wont even try. fuel pump works quite long period of time... longer than i remember... what's wrong with my ride? any typical reason why it did that? i have quarter tank of fuel and new battery. where i should start trouble shooting? i wish to have it back. snow is melting and new paint looks so good...

please help me Gurus,

Check for spark. Check the ignition module they die easy.

Pull off 1 plug wire and ground it to check for spark while someone is cranking the engine.

If you have spark you may jumped time.

If you don't , Work backwards to the starter to find out what went wrong.

Trust me anyone can get a Chevy running.

 

its probably an ignition problem

 

check the coil I had the same problem

 

i finally got back to garage and i had spare plug. spark looked just fine, except the colour was yellow not blue. probably colour of the spark is not an issue

again no sign of life what so ever and fuel pump runs up to 5-10 seconds everytime i turn power on...

grrr what would be next logical thing to look at? i wish to hit the road soon...

your fuel pump will do that


Pull a plug and see if you're flooding

 

Put a fuel pressure gauge to it. Sounds like your pump might have crapped out.

 

I havent heard a fuel pump run anymore that about 5 seconds. Check your fuel pressure definatley.

 

1989 have somekind of theft protection system? VATS? would it be simply possible that it's activated?

for sure i don't know how does it work.

I havn't had this experience with cars, it was with my dirt bike, i had yellow spark, and no start. I put in a new plug, blue spark and it started right up.

 

You have to be more detailed. "won't start" is not enough.

Does the motor crank when you turn the key ? Does it WANT to start but it just doesnt ? Does it just spin and nothing happens...? Pull a spark plug wire and put an old plug in it then ground it. Go crank it and look at the plug to see if it's firing...
