TH350 install pointers
TH350 install pointers
I searched the old posts and have found a th350 longtail, and I bought the B&M install kit. Is there anything to look out for or anything you recommend I do or not do. I am replacing the th700 in my '87 Iroc
The guy I bought it from did it. He owned a bodyshop and he said that with labor and supplies, it would cost about $5,000. The pinstripes are painted and go into the fuel door and door jambs. Also, I am getting ready to do the swap this weekend, so if anyone can offer any advice, please do.
Whats up people?
I made the swap back in 95, but I still remember the routine. Try to put your shift kit in while the tranny is out the car, You'll be happy that U did>
1. You'll need the B&M 350 to 700r change over kit.
2.If U can, try to find a long tail 350 trans. By using this long tail type U will not need a longer drive shaft (dont spend money if u dont have to!) U will be reusing your old driveshaft. If U buy the short tail 350 transwhen U go to the junk yard be sure to get the drive shaft that came in the donor 3speed car.More on this later.
3.Cross member> U are going to have to find this part in the junkyard. Look for a old 82-84 Camaro Berilinta. Most of these cars had the V6 with 3speed automatic. Thats the cross member U need for your new 3 speed tranny swap & while your there you'd might as well take the gear selector console with the PRND21 numerals on it. I cant remember if the 700s shifter cable works with the 350 trans.
4. With your new trans I would stay away from "DEEP GEARS" 3.23s are a good choice. 3.73s & up are too much for an everyday driver! With 3.73s U can expect to cruise at about 60 MPH with your tach on 3000 RPMs!
5. Speedo> If U have the old style cable type U can usually plug it into the 350 trans. The electronic type speedo sending unit will have to be bought for the 350 trans. Before U buy try to install the "electronic" one from the 700 trans & see if it will work.
After the swap I had a car that will shift gears at wide open throttle! No more take your foot off the throttle & pray for it to shift. While your at it be sure to get a 2500 to 3000 stall converter! With the 3.23 use 2500 & 3.42 or higher get the 3000 stall .
I hope this helps
