700R4 probs

The 700r4 trans was rebuilt not to long ago, has shift kit and stall con(1700 1800). Question is it won't shift unless you take it to 6000 r's. Could this be the gear on the govenor, (stripped or broken) I don't want to tear it apart till I have a clue to the problem. Thanx for the help, Dave

TV cable could be out of adjustment. Governors aren't hard to change either. Rebuilt Delco governors are about $25.

Depending on whether or not the TV Checkball is in place or not, a broken or missadjusted TV Cable could cause that. A stuck Governor could too but not the stripped gear- it just wouldn't shift. Also, and probably the most likely is a stuck TV Valve in the Valve Body. When you say shift kit, do you mean a genuine TransGo or something else. It makes a difference.
