Rear ends...What to look for?

Ok other than a nice tall blonde with long legs that can fit into less than a size 4 dress, what should I look for when purchasing a entire new rear end.

In my car I currently have the low ball rear end they offered (2:77??? and no posi) and I am looking to upgrade to something a little more agressive, not planning on doing it right now, probably in the next couple of months. Any suggestions on how I go about finding a good one and what to look for when taking a look at them?. Suggestions????

Well it depends on what you are looking for. If you want a 3.73 I would look in the early 80's cars there was a hih po axle that came with them. I don't know hwta the code is but if you look on the tag on the axle it should tell you. Once you have it out just check that all the teeth are there, that there is no chips or cracks in them, and that the oil in there isn't BLACK. Personally I would just buy a new gera if it was me rather thn praying you get a good rear. GM gears for these cars are really week.

Why not freshen your rearend with a new gear and posi unit? Atleast then you know exactly what you have.

What I have heard from others is that for the amount of effort and money it is to swap out the gears and drop in a posi unit you might as well just find a rear end with posi and a decent ratio get it serviced and swap out the entire set-up. Keep in mind I have the crapy rear end, no Posi lowball gears (so a 2 series carrier) and drum setup (which isnt all that bad I might add). I dont know, do you still think it might be worth getting a new set a gears a 3 series carrier and a posi unit now that you know what I currently have??
