Cost of a swap to T56

Those of you who swapped from auto to T56, what did it end up costing you in all? Any problems after the swap? Was it worth it? I'm considering a T56 rather than rebuilding my 700. Thanks

Engine: 5.7 TPI
Transmission: T-56
So far I have paid for:
Tranny setup including clutch, mc, sc, bellhousing etc: $1300
Spohn Torque Arm w/ ds loop: $395
Console manual shifter plate: $95
Pedals: $75

That is without the rear end gears I plan on putting in, LT1 starter, miscellaneous stuff like a pilot bearing etc., and installation if you are not doing it yourself.

I will have spent about $2500-3000 on the swap. I know some people can get stuff cheaper than what I paid though.

Was the torque arm and ds loop a nescessity for the swap?

Heres what I've got in mine, approx prices:

t56, bellhousing, $750
lt4 pp, flywheel, hydraulics, bolts, connectors $550
mcleod disk $130
pro 5.0 shifter $180
spohn crossmember and torque arm w/ loop $395

total: $2005

You can do it without the pro 5.0, can get a cheaper clutch, can use the stock torque arm and crossmember. I got a pretty good deal on the tranny.

my turn

1100 - tranny, bellhousing, mcleod clutch disc/pressure plate
75 - a stock LT1 flywheel
389 - spohn torque arm/crossmember
50 - factory optional hurst shifter
100 - gm master/slave cylinder kit

about 150 in wiring connectors, bolts, and fluid

probably some other little stuff i left out so around $1900

Where r u guys getting these good deals on the T56s? I usually see them for about $1400. And i'm guessing theres a reason all of u just happened to get the Torque arm?

I forgot to add in my cost for my Pro 5.0 shifter, ****, and a Dakota Digital box to fix the speedo. Thats another $300 right there.

I am getting the Spohn Torque arm and ds loop because you need the loop for the track and I have heard nothing but good things about the torque arm.

How about buying it new?

Has anyone asked the price of new T-56 from chevy parts dealer, i searched the net and found this.

sallee-chevrolet.t-56

The 1993-style transmission is USD1,700 and ´94-97-style is USD2,895.
Why so huge difference in price, there is 50 lb-ft difference in rated torque but still..
Just wondering if there is error on this page. or what.
And the ratios are different too

Tremec Retro-Fit T56 is USD2,295

Oh, and I forgot to add the dakota digital box as well (havent bought it yet). I went with the spohn torque arm for a number of reasons... My original crossmember was already modded for the t-5 and would have to be modded agian for the t-56, I didnt have the torque arm mount thingie for the transmission, and I'd heard good things about the torque arm. Now if mr. spohn could get off his *** and send me the thing already, I'd have the car back on the road instead of still sitting in the garge.

Not included in the price is the labor to get the pedals installed (trust me, it's a PITA to even attempt IMO), which I'm assuming will be $120+. Also, the price of a ministarter or one from an LT1 if I can't get mine to fit. And of course, the rear gears will have to be changed, as the 1st gear ratio on the T56 is quite a bit less than on the 700r4. SLP take-off Posi and diff. cover=$110, gears(from a friend, 3.73)=$130, installation=$200

the spohn torque arm with the driveshaft it not required, the T56 will bolt right to your stock torque arm. But the driveshaft loop is always a good idea, and the spohn unit will reduce wheelhop.

Mine was about $1900. Reused the clutch that I got with the tranny. Did get new shifter and just the Spoone crossmember. I have a spreadsheet with the prices and part numbers for most of the stuff. Email if you want it.

no hes just saying that you dont have to order spohns torque arm setup, the stock one bolts up to the t-56 without mods.
