manual 4 spd, 5spd, and 6spd'rs.....come on down!

ok, I've got questions, but can't seem to find any answers specifically for what I'm looking for. As like everyone else, I would like to slam a T56 in my car, but price is a problem. I heard that there are some good 4 spd's, however I hear that gas mileage would suck @ss. I have a 350 in my car, and going with the 5 spd wouldn't be a good idea from what I hear.

What alternatives are there?!
Could a 5spd be beefed up to handle the torque of my motor?
Would a 4 spd be that bad on gas?

Any help would be wicked. Thanks,

Four speeds suck on gas, your final gear is one to one so you eat fuel like crazy. A TKO Tremec 5-speed could hold your power no problem but for the money I would get a used T-56. Thats just me personally.

My car came with a 305/5 Speed and the motor has recently been replaced with a 350.I don't expect the T5 to last long, as I drive it pretty hard and tend to slam 2nd regularly.
I'm planning on the Tremec TKO for mine.Rated for gobs more torque than the weak T5 and is closer to a "true" bolt-in than most. I'll have to change the shifter and will probably also get one of those cool Spohn crossmembers as well, though it can be done without that.

I put a 6 speed in my IROC for around $2500, that's going from 700R-4 to 6 speed and using all performance parts. I'm not going to sit and list where I got everything, it'd take too damn long, but if anyone's REALLY serious, email me. Enough emails, and I'll probably make a post, but right now I'm feelin kinda lazy.

You know how it is guys, I stayed up till 4 last night killin what might as well have been a liquor store with my cousin.
