Help! speedo should work but gears dont mesh.

I pulled off the VSS and twisted the gear or bar and what not and the speedo moves! this is a good thing. Its not the VSS itself ($75) or some crazy electrical bs.(I dont like electrical work).

How can I get the gears to mate up? both of them look fine. I have heard of this happening on these boards before but how did anyone fix them?

please help quick. I need to fix it tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it on a lift.

thanks,

If a moderator feels there would be a better board for this feel free to moove it. seemed like the place to me.

I ran into this problem just yesterday, some speedo gears are a larger diameter than others, in my case the 41 tooth driven gear was 1/4" larger than the original 37 tooth driven gear.

There are several different sleeves that go for the various gears
that move the center of the driven gear up or down you need to get a sleeve that matches your driven gear.

Hopes this helps

Ahah!! That would probably explain why my speedo doesn't work after a 2.73 to 3.42 swap with the proper speedo drive/driven gears and new VSS. The shop that installed them checked it again and they were stumped...
