Rear end gears

Rear end gears

OK i have the stock rear end gears in my 85z and want to switch to 3.73's, well my questiong is what do i have to do, is it easy.. like pull out the old gears and slip in the new ones or?

i think it's fairly easy to do, but requires tools most people don't have. buy a gear set for your carrier then replace pinion, set pinion depth, set preload on the pinion bearings, change ring gear, check/set back lash, check contact pattern. buy a manual and don't trust some dumbass on the net. there is a fairly easy to follow article in CHP this month. also you might want to try the search feature since this comes up about every other day
