lockup/non-lockup torque converter

I just put a tranny in my car, it came out of another car that had a nonlockup torque converter "i am to believe", he said the one that wastes more gas. But i put my stock "i believe a lockup" torque converter in it, will it cause me any problems, and what kind of problems, i hear i can change some wiring in the tranny, to switch it to accept a lockup torque converter, is this true and what is it i need to change, thanks-
