differences in 700R4 xmembers
I got my transmission in my car last night, and had noticed before but hadnt given it much thought. On all the V8 cars I have seen, the transmission xmember is one piece, and has a hole in the middle were the stud goes through it. In my car, which was a V6, its different. There are two rubber pads that bolt to another piece, and the mount bolts to that. I checked and the part numbers are the same for both mounts. just wanted to know what was up.
thanks

Don't know much about the cross members but in my 85 Z28 (which is a V8) mine is like your's with the two pads and a flat piece of steel that the tranny mounts to. Maybe there is a difference between autos and manuals or between different kinds of tranny's (700r4 / 200r4) or between different years. My brother's 91 firebird is a V6 and had the same as mine too. Maybe mine is messed up! Don't know and probably didn't help you out at all. Sorry

i bolted mine up tonight, everything looks fine. it seems like the one i have, with the two pads, would raise the back of the transmission up more than the other type, but the other type could have a bend in it that does the same thing. so i dunno.
