go with reman 200c or go with 80k 700r4 ?
ok ive got an 82 trans am that has a reman th200c in it and i have a 83 caprice with untouched donor F-body 305 LG4 with aLl ESC and AIR stuff intact and operational with 700r4 behind it that runs drives great. wou;d you go for 700r4 in the trans am or leave the reman 200 in place for ease sake ? would reman 200 have the common tailshaft bushing wear problem solved, or ??
what wpouild you guys do ? if go wit 700 then do i have to find different driveshaft and crossmember ??
and would a 2.8L T-5 shaft work ? i have one laying around.
i figure the 82 trans am is lighter than a 83 caprice, or is it ?? rear axles tiny though..... better be 3.08 or deeper gears in that t/a, was LG4 and 200 originally. would it be decent gears ?
thanks for anything,. i appreciate itR

If it were me "and the 200 is trashed, I know you said remanufactured, "was it rebuilt yesterday or 50,000 miles ago" theres a big difference in my answer, if it was rebuilt yesterday"
I am going for the fact the 200 has alot of miles on it. I would opt for the 700, Its a stronger trans, and it has OVER DRIVE. As for the DS The one you have might work, T5 and 700 DS' were the same lenghts. BUT I gon't know if that applies to V6 cars also.
Crossmember, most likely will need to be changed, its easy to get from the junk yard though. If memory serves me right, GM put mostly 3.08 or 2.73 gears in F-bodys in 82. Mine was 3.08.

Actually is reman and stored, i dont even think has 500 on it.
And the 700 is an 83 which is not a year know for reliability of the 700,. so.... does work fine and well and is clean, but still,..
who knows for sure if V6/T5 driveshaft would work for V8/700r4 ? I heard are only two differetn shafts for third gen ? I'll have to just measure the 84 Z28 V8 700 shaft and crossmember to see.
I know where theres a 82-84 firebird sitting for 200 bucks a few blocks away, may have to snag it for parts for a little less if its got 700r4 stuff. know where theres another 82-84 with oregon plates on it even closer to me i could probably get cheap for parts and its a v8 700 car i know, they been taking drivetrain in and out of it alot lately, dunno wtf theyre doing to it, besides probably ruining it.
thanks for anything,. i need to know as much as i can find out and asap before i go pulling out the blown motor and pulling out the donor motor out of the caprice,

I got my 700r4 from a caprice, it was supposed to be from an 88 "the good year" and in fact after I got all the gunk cleaned off it was makred 83 caprice "junk yard transmission".
I dont know exactly how many miles are on this transmission since its seen two cars but I'm assuming 100k+ but it shifts great and the transgo kit only helped. I would go for the 700R4 I like the 700 over the 200, that low 1st gear really pays off along with the od. Id say my swap was worth every penney.

in answer to the drive shaft question, the only different length is the one for the 200c, all t5 and 700r4 driveshafts, for both v6 and v8 f-bodys are the same, i am using the original v6 drive shaft in my car with a v8 now.
just to be double safe you may want to measure
