Hi, I sure could use some advice, My 700 -r4
in my 92GTA is dead she made a horrible bang
as i left a stop sign with grinding/chattering
sounds as i pulled to a stop(im my own driveway)
Now i expect the worst when it is removed later
this week, it had the B@m shift improver kit
put in 2 years ago( sorry i did not know at the
time) I want to build a great trans out of this
and was wondering about the converter as this would be a great time to put together a great
package. The only signs that i had were a missed
2nd gear 5km or so before the "big bang" up untill
the the tranny did great firm shifts and good
running oh the trans oil is clean ( i change oil
once a year + the filter but it now has a very
slight strong smell to it. Thanks for your responce. GTA........

 

If it is indeed the Transmission I would suspect the Geartrain from what you have described. Yes you will have to replace the Converter too, especially with that kind of damage. A Cooler and redaitor bypass are also recommended.
