i believe this is my tranny or converter.

i can start the car fine...idles fine....and drives fine..

My problem..
when i shift into a gear..out of park...and into a gear (any gear except neutral) than it makes a pinging noise, just onces..like metal against metal noise.....then the idle drops to about 200 for like 10 seconds and the idles comes back up to 750 and idles like a pro...runs fine after that.

honestly..i can't even start to think of what this might be except something with the tranny...if you guys can come up with some sort of other options...please let me know...i just about die the two times it has done this...once it started..and i couldn't beleive it so i tried again....but i was dying. thanx in advance for any help

 

As far as that pinging noise you are describing, my first guess would be the bearings on your driveshaft. I had an old truck that used to make that noise.

Sounds like the typical u joint problem. (not that I can actually hear it)
