odd trans problem
ok, i lost 2nd, drive, and overdrive today.... this has happened before and it was the govenor, no big deal easy fix in my driveway. well this time i pulled the govenor and the govenor was fine....just for the hell of it, i had a brand new govenor and threw that in there. same result. i then checked my TV cable and it was good. the fluid level was also good, all i have is first, reverse, neutral and park. the fluid is still nice and pink and has no smell of anything burned on it. anyone have any ideas?
thanks alot
EDIT: its a 700r4 in an 89 camaro

one more question...is it possible that the gear in the tailshaft that turns the govenor could have broken?...the only thing i can think of is that this is the govenor
The gear that turns the governer? NO WAY, since the teeth are cut into the output shaft. If any of the gears would go bad, it would be the governer's. The old governer gears were bad about "apple coring" but since you tried a new one, sounds like thats not the problem.
I'm assuming when you say you lost 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, that its simply not shifting. Sounds to me like the Throttle Valve is stuck in the Valvebody. Very common problem. Give a few good yanks on the TV Cable and see if it helps. I have been able to get them to start working by doing that. For a permanent solution, get the TransGo Reprogramming kit. They have developed a Throttle Valve, and TV lineup that does not exhibit this condition. I have never had one stick after installing a TransGo, they are worth there weight in gold. Good luck.

thanks alot for the help, i already had the kit waiting to be installed, but couldnt get the motivation...guess this motivated me. BTW, i also tried pulling on the TV cable, that didnt help, i also tried something my uncle heard before, because it is supposed to put alot of pressure on the fluid or something. he said to powerbrake it in reverse. that didnt help either. anyway, my trans guy said he will do it for $100. he has done them before and said its not too bad for him anymore. thanks again
