Clutch/transmission

I've just been reading thru some of the horror stories about folks changing to a manual trans in the 3rd gen f-bodies. I'm also in the process of an entire drive train replacement. Let me ask the question.
I have an 84 z/28 with a manual trans. (Richmond 5 speed), I've purchased a Lakewood bell housing PN#15020 with the bracket on the side to accept the hydraulic slave cylinder and a new street strip Hayes Pressure plate and disc. I have only put everything together for a test fit motor and tranny and have found that it does not appear that there is enough disengagement of the clutch when the pedal is depressed. It appears that I have about 3/8" of movement at the throw out bearing. The clutch does disengage as I can turn the tail shaft with a pair of pliers and the tranny in 4th gear, however when the clutch pedal is released it only comes out about 1/'2" off of the floor and it appears to be engaging. Keep in mind I have not started the motor yet however I'm trying to save myself some time and agony before I get the whole car put back together and find out there is not enough travel.
You mentioned that you have a similar installation and have the stock slave cylinder working correct?
Do you see anything different from your installation?
Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to provide.

My bell housing is stock, but that shouldn't matter...

That sounds like about the right amount of movement there... my car has about ¾" of travel at the slave cyl, so with the ratio of the clutch fork, 3/8" at the throwout sounds about right. I think you'll be OK as far as that goes.

Thanks for the quick input. I'll give it a try.
