v6-700 guts in v8-700 housing
is this possible...
will the v6 700r4 guts work in the v8-700 case...
i have a burned up v8 tranny and a good v6-700...
i just need it to work behind my worn out LG4 for a while...
i can disassemble them myself... but was wondering if internally the dimensions were the same...
basically, the input shaft and output shaft are all that would be reused from the v8 tranny...
i know the v6 in 1985 was rated higher than the 84 LG4 so... theoretically speaking it should be fine behind one... strength wise...
thanks,
Chris

Most of the hard parts are the same, except for the input housing (aka input shaft pressed into a clutch housing). Depending on whats wrong w/ the old tranny, swapping the "guts" won't do any good. Usually what fails is inside that input housing. If it was a hard part failure like a planetary, you'll be OK. But if it was something like the 3-4 clutches or foward sprag, you'll have to dissasemble the input housing and swap those parts too, however, some of the V-6 trannies had the 3-4 clutch stacked differently, so you'll be short one clutch plate.
