Auto to T5 checklist...
Auto to T5 checklist...
I'm no newbie to Auto to Manual swaps, just want to make sure I have everything straight for my IROC before I start ( in a few weeks hopefully ).
T5 Tranny - I'm using a '92 Z28 WC T-5, and since it uses an electronic speedo, and my 85 IROC is cable driven, I'll need the speedo gear and housing for a cable drive speedo
- Bellhousing, clutch fork and flywheel from above. - the engine in my IROC is a 87-later block so that's straight.
- Clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bushing
- Clutch master cylinder / slave cylinder assembly. I plan on picking up a unit for a 4th gen F-Body so I can have the braided steel fluid line.
- Inner boot, 5 spd shifter plate for console
- Pedal assembly
I do have a few questions.. I want to retain my cruise control. I'm assuming that I need to get a switch for the pedal assembly from a cruise control equipped manual car?
Anybody know off hand what color the wires are for the reverse lights on my 85 IROC / 700 , and what color for the Park / Neutral switch?
Do I just need to wire the 2 wires for the P/N switch together to keep the ECM from going nuts?
I'm using a donor T5 plug for the reverse lights, so am I correct in assuming I just need to run the wires that exist now for the reverse lights down to the T5 plug on the side of the tranny?
I haven't checked yet to see whether or not my 85 IROC has the template already there for the clutch master cylinder pushrod...anybody with a 85 confirm or deny this either way?
Everything I've researched tells me that my stock 85 700R4 torque arm should bolt up to the T5 without mods. Anybody know differently?
The driveshaft appears to be the same length, and the crossmember appears to be the same..so I'm assuming the tranny mount is the same as well.
I've just about got all the parts ready, and if it weren't for just spending cash and time getting the engine running right, I'd be done already...and of course now I need to spring for some new rear tires
Any guidance on this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
85 IROC, soon to be T5 equipped...thank you ***...

Driveshaft, Torque Arm and Crossmember should be the same.
Buy a Roller Pilot Bearing, Moroso # 41100 ($14.95@Summit)
Cheap and makes for smoother release, most clutch shops now include these in a standard clutch job.
Take a look at the fork and ball stud too, if they're used.
If they're galled at all, now's the time to replace 'em.
Pivot Stud:GM Part# 14036058
Clutch Fork: GM Part# 14075725
Not sure about the electrical stuff, but Mine's a 92 and it has cruise, so I'll look at it tonight.

the torque arm mount for the auto and t5 are diff... I did the swap about 2 years ago... there was like 5 diff mounts to choose from on the dealer computer that was the only hard part of the swap for me.. Kevin
