ACT 9.5" converter install

I'm installing an ACT 9.5" converter, and I heard that you should remove the checkball and retainer from the end of the input shaft when installing a smaller converter? Is it really neccasary and why? Thanks.

You have less clutch area, so you want the clutch to come on quick and have more holding power by flooding the circuit. Vigilante does the same thing with their 9.5" lockups, remove the checkball assembly and install a new o-ring and it will work out great.

Oh, and is the checkball in the converter end of the input shaft or the drum end?

here's the part removed from the input shaft (mine was apart so I thought I'd snap a quick pic to help anyone interested). It pulls right out with a little "persuasion".
