confusion on my rear end

ok, here's my question:

i have a 91 z as a donor car for my 92 rs that i just bought.
since the rs has a 1 legged rear end, i wanted to swap the posi unit out of the z, but the rs has a t-5 (so it has 3.08 gears and the z has 2.73) can i use the posi, but keep the 3.08 gearing?
or is this even possible?
actually i would prefer the 3.73 or 3.42, but money and speedometer accuracy are issues

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks, mike

I'd save up for a gear swap to 3.42's and an Eaton. But....

The posi you have now will work with the 3.08's, so you could use it and bump a quarter point change and have a posi to hold you over until you save the moola for the 3.42's you were thinking about.

Being a dealer tech, I buy most of my parts through GM, but gears and posi's are two parts I will not buy from there! Its simply overpriced. You can get brand new GM gears from SLP for $199. If you must have an eaton posi, you can get those from summit. I believe a 3.08 is still considered a 2 series carrier, so like chacane said, you can just swap the carriers, but technically, the carrier needs to be set up again, even though your re-using the gears. I don't know if I would do that just to go to 3.08 gears. Personally, I would just leave it along till I had what I wanted, but thats just my 2¢.
