How many splines rear end?

Hello

I was wondering what is the spline number in GM 10 bolt rear end with 2.73 gears which came stock on fbody with 5,0 TBI and automatic trans .
Is it 28?

90 and later are 28
88 and earlier are 26
89 seems to be the transition year, 26 or 28

If the splines are different, they why do driveshafts work for all years? (or so I've heard)

The number of splines on the axles have nothing to do with what driveshaft will work.

89 is the year they changed over, in the middle of the year, and not all at once... the ONLY way to know for sure is to take out an axle and count them. It's not very hard to do, if you're serious, you will just have to do it. Or, buy both kinds, and use the one that fits.
