rear swap.. need some ideas...
k i got a rebuilt posi wit 373's for my car.. the problem is someone cut it out with a torch and they messed up the holes where the shocks bolt in.. what would be easier.. takin a sawsall to em and trying to weld the old ones from my old rear on or trying to swap internals? my other rear is the origional v6 open 271 rear.. would it be possible to just swap the internals and use the casing from that? which would be easier/faster.. suggestions please

yeah problem is i havta swap the brakes too.. dont u havta take the rear apart ne way to do that? cause if ya do i figured it would make more sense to use the good housing from the old open rear and just swap internals.. if im wrong plz correct me.. also will the posi parts fit in the housing?

well if one rear end has drum brakes and one has disc brakes i can understand the desire to swap them.....if they are the same i wouldnt even bother really. you dont have to take to whole rear end apart to remove the brakes though, the backing plates and stuff just unbolt from the housing ends. All the internals should swap over without a problem as long as both housings are the same

no i dont think you have to touch the diff to remove the brake hardware, in fact im almost positive.
However, if you plan to do alot of drag racing with slicks, your gonna want a good sidewall so you would use 15" rims.....15's wont clear that disc setup, so if you plan on doing that you either need an aftermarket setup that will clear,or stick with drums

how would you slip the backing plates past the axle.. its damn near impossible unless you cut the backing plate with a sawsall unless you pull the axle..

hmmm.... see im at school right now so i cant just go out to the garage and look at it, im trying to remember....the rear is in my brothers car, so ill find out
I forsee the axles being pulled if you want to swap brakes from one rear to the other. I had to on a 9 bolt anyway, but at least they dont use c clips so you can just unbolt the axles.

ahhh yes....that was what i was trying to remember.....i was thinking c-clips if you had to pull out the axles. thats not big deal then.....
all you need to do is take the retaining bolts out of the housing end, and slide the axle out....no need to remove the diff cover, cause like momar said the 9-bolt has bolt in axles not c-clips

Actually I think that he has a 10 bolt right? If so he will have to pull the cover off and pull out the c clips but that shouldnt be to bad. If it is a 9 bolt it is 4 bolts and it slides out.
