this past summer i bought a 3.42 open rear, its a 86 model, for 100 bucks, now i want to add a posi from slp, my old rear is a 92 2.73 open rear, can i use the gears out of the 86 in my 92 with the posi or will i have to buy new gears for the 92 rear, just ask if you need clarification on what i am doing, so thanks to all that help.

 

You should be able to use the 3.42 with the posi. if you got the posi from SLP it most likely needs 28 spline axles which are in your 92 rear(90 and up were all 28 spline). Take the axles out of the 92 rear and put them along with the posi in your current rear with 3.42s

 

that should work..
