Trans Am rear end to Camaro rear end?

Does anyone know if an 84 Trans am rear end will swap out directly with my 90 RS camaro rear end?

Yes. At least, if the 84 has drums.

However, if the 84 rear has disc brakes, they suck, and you'll need a different master cyl and proportioning valve to get them to work right, after you fix all the problems that those have.

That is dishartening. The rear end I am looking at does have disc brakes. Is that gonna be a big hassle? Do you have any idea what master cylinder and proportioning valve I will need? Can you elaborate more on that I was waiting on a response back from the seller and then I was going to the bank for the money until I heard what you said. Now I am not so sure I want the rear end. Please help.

swap in is a piece of cake, direct bolt in..

however you might need just the proportioning valve and probably the parking brake cables..

Be aware however that the disc brakes pre-87 or so really sucked!! They had a whole different type of caliper system and the piston had problems with it from day 1. The PBR system is far superior.

Contact :hail: AndyZ28 on this board and talk to him about this, he has a whole upgrade kit that is WELL worth the $$ you spend on it!!

Even if you can't/don't wanna spend more money on it, he is a wealth of information about the braking systems (among other things too!)

Hope this helps!

So if I got rid of the caliper all together and went with an aftermarket caliper things should be better then huh?

why dont u just make sure the non PBR calipers work first before ditching them. becuz if they work fine then why get rid of something that works. on the rer i got i got it for 200 bucks and that was everything including the prop. vavle and the rear , the guy put new rotors and calipers on it before he sold me it.

and plus ive heard with the PBR calipers u need bigger then a 15 in rim, is this true or no?

Not sure what PBR calipers are, but they didn't come with anything bigger than 15" rims in 84 did they?

I'm running 15" rims on mine, no problem!

I used AndyZ28's 1LE retrofit PBR rear disc kit, and the difference is amazing!
