Summit sells a Richmond 3.73 27 spline gear for a 3.08 and lower carrier. Will this gear set go right into my '85 Camaro's rear? It is the 2.73 or 2.73 gear(which ever it came with) Are the stock axles 27 spline or will I need to order some?

 

The splines on the gear aren't the ones that mate with the axles, they mate with the driveshaft yoke. AFAIK all of this typoe rear end has that spline so it's really not an issue.

I'd really strongly recommend against geting the special gear; it works fine as far as that goes, but limits your future options. For instance, youcan't just buy a 3-series posi like the SLP or something and install it without replacing the gear.... again. Get a spacer instead.

would you recommend just buying the gears for the 3 series then? If I do that I think I will just buy a posi unit for it as well. Any recommendations there? The SLP unit? The one on their web site is $500. Is there one a little less than that? I see that Eaton offers one for the 7 1/2" ring gear, 26 spline 3.23 up ratio. Would that be a good one? Any one have any recommendations?

 

oh, and is there anyone that sells the complete set up? with the gears, posi, and install kit? I want a 3.73 gear...possibly a 4.10.
