Probuilt transmissions, built to last?

It seems like to me rebuilt transmissions just don't last, maybe just a fraction of when they are new. For example I had the trans in my 89 Grand marquis rebuilt 15 months ago and it already feels like its slipping, naturally just after the 12 mo warranty expired. Even many people on this board have one trans for the first 100,000 miles or so and then go through 3 more in the next 100,000 miles.

I was just wondering if this was a problem inherent in all rebuilt transmissions or what? From what I have heard from here Dana certainly knows his stuff and sells a great product, but will it last as long as a stock one?
I know that is a loaded question because some people beat the crap out of their Trannys, but overall what is the expected life of a Probuilt trans?

The whole trick to a trans rebuild is experience, the correct tools, a surgically clean work area and a methodical, careful approach when assembling and checking tolerances. A good trans guy can build a box that may very well last as long as an OE but be prepared to pay for it. You question is a good one and hard to answer. It is kind of like rebuilt alternators. What I have found is that when doing many projects sticking with OE or better quality parts is paramount. I have seen a lot of people get rid of cars because it is full of aftermarket parts. Everybody today is out to save a buck, but there are times when it more cost effective to spend a little more. Generally a factory rebuilt unit is the best way to go over a local shop especially the chain type places. Dana has a pretty good reputation and is willing to talk with people, I would drop him a call and see what he says.

ProBuilt deals mainly with the 700R4 on a daily basis. I think they know what they are doing.

Further, I have never heard a bad word about them. If I were in the market for a properly built, strong 700R4, I would go to them.
