Hey guys I have a 79 camaro z28 and a 350 turbro short shaft transmission but the flywheel already on my engine didn't fit sooo we put on a 400 smallblock flywheel and a guy at A&A said that i'll blow my barrings out of my engine if i keep the flywheel on there is he right and what should i do
justin,
first of all....you pay for what you get. this guy gave you a free flywheel. he just wants to get you the hell out of his garage and charge you for the work.
motors are kinda complex. everything has to match.
example: if the balancer is 28 oz (ounces).....then the flywheel has to be the same. they have to weigh the same so that they dont make the motor rotation awkward and ruin your motor.
Best bet: do it right the first time. make sure that everying is gonna work. for the money, go to AutoZone and get a stock chevy 350 flywheel (about $40-60) and make sure that its gonna fit and your motor is gonna be ok.
ya dont wanna have to rip this motor down and start all over again in the spring when race season is about to start.
Save your money and get a crate motor or a good worked one from the thirdgen classifieds section.
