fluid from real seal?

At the rear of the transmission where the drive shaft connects, i saw some fluid comming out of there.. What is that seal called? Is it uncommon to leak there? How much will it cost for the part to replace? Can it be replaced w/out removing teh transmission? I've got an 88 350 TPI w/ a 700r4. Thanks!

a common problem...about $3 for a rear seal, about ten minutes to change. just drop the drive shaft, pull the old one out, put the new one in
