its a transaxle.....and is part of the whole rear assembly in the corvette. unless your name is john lingenfelter, and/or you have a liquid cooled bank account, forget about it.

the rear suspension in corvette is also totally different and in no way similar, even in size to an f-body.

I would think the easiest way to do it would be to obtain the frame and drivetrain from a C5 and place a third gen body on it. I know there is a guy at camaros.net who is doing this to a first gen.

Its not a "transaxle" per say. The C5 still uses the 4L60-E/ZF-6 Speed RWD transmission, however is highly modified to bolt to the 7 5/8" Getrag rear differential. At any rate, a very involving and expensive mod requiring tons of fabrication. I won't say that it can't be done, but it certainly won't be easy or cheap.

well thats what i meant....its a platform specific housing that is intended to be a part of the rear axle/IRS assembly on the corvette. so while in function it is still either the 4l series tranny or a zf 6 speed it is in essence what amounts to a transaxle at least in appearance.

and you can get the frame or chassis from a c5 its all one piece.

Hmm, but at what point does it go from a "highly modified" thirdgen, to a thirdgen looking C5??? (not directed at you 383, just thinking out loud).

If your shooting for "wild" and "unusual", I think you'll acheive it by making it work, but other than that, I don't think the ends will justify the means...
