Need Help Quickly
I was driving just the other day, and stood on the gas to get myself out of a jam, I felt it shift into passing gear, and then it paused for a second and then took off. But since then, I have no 2nd or 4th gear. I figure the 2-4 band is the problem, so here's my questions:
Is it bad to drive with this band shot?
How hard is it to replace?
I have the tranny rebuilt about 4 years ago, and put a Transgo shift kit in last year when I put my 355, 350 hp motor. You don't think that's too much motor for 700r Automatic do you? Any help would be great.

it doesn't shift into a passing gear, it downshifts, you've got 1&2 but your 3&4 clutch pack is gone, your gonna have to get the trans rebuilt again to fix it so it's not gonna hurt to drive it...cuz if it breaks any more, your still gonna have to get it rebuilt...
and i apologise if my terminology is wrong (and i'm fairly certain it is)

You'll have to forgive me, I don't know much about trannys but I feel pretty sure I don't have 2nd gear, when I manually shift through the gears when driving around, I get a nice take off in first, then shift to where 2nd should be, and no change, no drop in rpms, nothing, it just stays in first, then I upshift again, and let off the gas, and will finally shift into 3rd, but thats it, it won't continue on to O/D. I guess either way, I'm going to have to have it rebuilt, I just wonder how long I have.

First verify that you have reverse. If you do, then you can rule out the Reaction Sun Shell, which is a very common failure that will cause no reverse, 2nd or 4th gear. If you do have reverse, and your sure that you only have 1st and 3rd, then more then likely the band is broke and will require removal for repair.
700's can be built to handle what most street cars can put out, so get it re-built, get it done properly, and enjoy the car.

Thanks, GMTech, that's what I figured would need to be done. I do have reverse, so I can rule the shell out. One more thing, is it going to hurt anything driving it around until I can get it fixed, I'm still in debt for the motor.

I think that it goes without saying that more damage is inevitable the more its driven. If the band is slipping so badly that it cannot hold a gear, then excessive heat will result and other clutches, as well as hard parts, will soon fail as well.
