Sorry , Ineed to vent what would couse a diff open at that ,
to destroy its self on the road at full speed for no reason at all
---- this is not third gen but the moving parts are the same,
3.08 open diff 10 bolt model yr 86 was going about 70 mph
when BOOOOOM and a bunch of grinding noise from the diff and no more further forward movement could be had , The only thing that was evident prior was a viabrating rythmic feel to the vehicle and was told it was a prop that was out of ballance has any one else ever had this happpen sorry to ramble on but it was my only winter wheels GTA.........
ps i opened the diff only to find complete destruction there is not one savible part AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRR!!! just tiny shiny pieces !

 

sometimes the cross shaft breaks or the spider gears let go. Doesn't need to be a posi to break.
