Swap rears off 83 Berlie to 91 RS?

I just bought a running 83 berlinetta for $400, with the LG4. It has a 3.23 rear on it.

My 91's rear seems to be going out, evertime the gears are engaged, i hear a clunk clunk, and there is a considerable amount of backlash when im under the car and manually rotate the driveshaft clockwise-counterclockwise. I may be wrong, but im sure im losing my rearend soon.

QUESTION: Can I just remove the complete rearend off my 83 Berlinetta with the 3.23's and directly bolt it on in place of my 91 rearend with no mods?

What kind of time am i looking at?

3 hrs to remove both rears? about 4-6 to install both?

I think Im going this route because id rather swap rears with only the cost of the time to do it myself with help, and for the gear oil.....than to but $200 gears and have a shop install em for me.

thanks guys:lala:

should bolt right up, only problem area might be brake line fittings, not sure if all were bubble flared or not, but and adapter can fix that easy enough.

Seriously consider changing the fluid in the 83 rear before you bolt it up. It'll take 5 minutes, but will insure longer life!
