Yeah, Yeah.. another Gear ratio question...
Yeah, Yeah.. another Gear ratio question...
Im sure you all have got to be getting sick of these by now... Iv reasearched the boards for a bit, and didnt find exactly what i wanted to know..... well my car has 3.23's in it right now, and im rebuilding the rear and cant deside if i want a 3.73 or a 4.10. Typical question isnt it? ... well iv got a 350 bored .040 over, mild cam, stock heads with 3 angle valve job, headers, 3 inch cat back, built 700 r4 with superior shift kit and 2800 stall.... when i was at the track i was entering the traps in 3rd gear at about 3000-3500 rpm. my power band goes till around 5300... BUT.. now im adding: LT1 heads, 1.6 rockers, and 150-175 shot of nitrous... i want to be in the traps around 5000-5500 rpm in 3rd gear... i was gonna get 3.73's . but then i scored another car that im gonna use for a daily driver, and desided to look into 4.10's. what you guys think?

From: working at a horse farm, gonna go to somerset county tech. inst. in january.
Car: 87 GMC sierra classic
Engine: fresh 350, minor mods (its been de-emissioned too)
Transmission: professionally re-built 700R4, REALLY hard shifts & bigger clutch packs
i think 410s are way too steep for that setup. have fun tryin to get traction. stay in the 3.xx gearing range, and you should be fine for that trap speed.
I ran 3.42 gears for 2 years w/ my TH700 trans and liked them, ran 13.2sec @ 102mph w/ them and got 26mpg on the highway. When I upgraded to a T56 trans, the 3.42s were a tad steep and there were plenty of happy 3.73 users on camaroz28.com...so last week I had a set installed. I love 'em! Wouldn't recommend 4.11 gears, it's tough to keep from spinning as is.
