How do I determine carriers on my rearend

I am looking at replacing my 3.08's in my 91 RS L03 with some Richmond 3.73's

It has 2 options for that gearing...3 carriers or 2.......I have no idea what that means, can you guys shed some light as to how i could tell.

Any recommendations?

You have a 2-series. 3.08 and down is 2-series, 3.23 and up is 3-series.

Don't get the special gears.... get a spacer instead. They're available at www.drivetrainspecialists.com for about $50 or $60. The special gears work fine as far as that goes, but limit your future upgrade path.

I wasn't aware of any "special gears"

On the Richmond site, it shows2 different options for my gear of choice... 3.73

It shows a 41-11 with 2 carriers
or
a 41-11 with 3 carriers

I dont see how the 2 series/3 series affects the carrier aspect....please enlighten me.

carrier question

The pinion gear from a 3series gearset is smaller in dia. because it has less teeth on it. This requires the ring gear flange on the carrier be moved closer to the pinion (as installed).
You have a 2series carrier. If you bought the 3.73s for a 2series carrier, the ring gear would be about 1/4" thicker to compensate for the smaller 11 tooth pinion. Or you could buy the 3series gearset and the spacer mentioned which would allow you to use your 2series carrier. If your posi ever goes south then just buy a 3series carrier and ditch the spacer.
I hope this makes sense.
