easy setting????

What would be the procedure for semi-easy setting of the pinion depth. i rebuilt my Rear back in October, but didn't get it perfect, so it whines at about 40, 55 and 70. in between those speeds are pretty quiet. What is the easiest way to do this? I don't like the whining anymore...didn't like it to begin with, but hey, it moved...

P.S. This post officially makes me a "Senior Member." WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!

Forgot to mention that I used the procedure for setting the depth in a Haynes manual I bought. It basically said to install the Pinion as if for final assembly, but without the crush sleeve. Paint the marking compund on the ring gear, then spin the pinion and check the markings on the ring gear. If it's not right, disassemble, reshim to get it closer and try again. i got it pretty freaking close from what i can tell. Spins easy, just makes noise now. i did a search and saw that I might need a Dpeth Mike...what is this, where can I find one, how much is it, how do i use it and are there any alternitives?
