tranny temp guage?

i notice alot of people running these.

with the increase power i'm running now i think it might be a good idea to have something like this. is there anywhere i can go to get a general idea of why i'd want one and the best way to go about it?

If you are running a smaller diameter than stock torque converter, then I recommend installing one. Keep an eye on the temps when racing or on the highway to make sure they do not go too high, risking blowing up the tranny.

I race mine every weekend, so I wanted it to keep an eye on my tranny temp. (anything over 150 cuts their life in half) and I needed to fill a hole in the new dash I installed. I ran it last year off a brass T and the gauge never moved-same went for a few other guys I raced with that went this route. Then I talked with the guys that had the deep aluminum pans that were thick enough to drill/tap for the sending unit and their gauges all worked correctly. With their 8" race convertors they were a little over 200 degrees at the end of the 1/4mi. Right now I'm having a guy in a near buy town mill me a new tranny pan for my TH350 so I can install it the right way for direct pan temps.

You don't need a deep pan to put a sender in the pan. I found a spot in the side of the apn where the sender wouldn't interfere with the valve body, drilled a hole and welded a weld nut inside.
