torque converter lock-up

I'm going to be replacing my t-5 with a 700r4 and I just would like to know if it would hurt the trany if I was not to have the torque converter lock-up?....I will be getting a lock-up kit in time but just need to know if that will hurt something or not. Also is there a way to just hook up a switch to it to lock it in when I want or do I need the kit? Any help would be great...Thanks!

I've heard some people say it killed theirs, others have gone years with no trouble. Guess it's all in how you treat it!

I have a Coan built 700r and a Coan tranny, and for a long time I never had the convertor lock up. I never had any problems, maybe a little more heat but thats about it. I recently installed a toggle switch which allows me to lock it when I want. But to answer your question as far as my setup goes, I haven't had any problems.

2laneblacktop: How did you go about hooking up the toggle switch?
