HELP?! What U-Joints do I need?
I need to replace my U-Joints on my 1990 IROC. I just have the regular steel driveshaft now, however I plan on buying one of the 1LE (JG1) aluminum driveshafts later on. My question is... if I replace the U-Joints now, will I have to buy 'special' ones for the aluminum driveshaft later on, or will the new ones I buy work with both driveshafts? Also, what other pieces are needed to upgrade to the aluminum driveshaft? Will it just bolt right up in place of the stock one? I have called Advance Auto and Auto Zone... neither one of them are 100% sure what U-Joints I need? Does anyone know? I saw a post where someone said they used like two front Joints or two rear Joints?!

The aluminum drive shaft uses a different rear U-joint. Period. Not interchangeable with the steel one.
An aluminum drive shaft is $150. A U-joint is $12. This is not something worth trying to take out of one drive shaft and put into another. Wrong place to try to save a couple of pennies (literally), even if they did interhcange.
The steel drive shaft uses 2 of the 3147x (the typical Mechanics/Saginaw one) U-joints. I don't know the part # for the one for aluminum drive shaft off the top of my head.
