Lock-up converter questions...HELP!!
Lock-up converter questions...HELP!!
Hi. I'm tossing my cross-fire 305 in favor of a carb'd 350. I'm confused about this 'lock-up/non lock-up' converter deal. My car has the original 700r4. Does it have a locking converter or not? I was sure it did for the overdrive but have been told that year doesn't. What's the deal? If it does:
Is anyone using the B&M lockup switch? If so are you satisfied with its operation? Does it still kickdown normally?
Is anyone using the Painless Wiring harness instead of the B&M? If so, how does it measure up?
Please help, I need to get this resolved so I can put this deal back together.

Yes it does have a lock-up. I'm running the TCI lock-up kit and it works pretty good. For the most part it's disabled now though. I have a manual switch. When the switch is on, it locks the torque converter when it's in 4th gear only. When it's off, it never locks up. On the highway, I leave it on. Around town, I leave it off. When my wife is driving it, it's on all the time--which doesn't hurt anything.
