Transmission Opinions

Well My car is getting ready to go to the tranny shop. I lost all engagement today. It is an 85 Berlinetta with a rebuilt 305. Nothing fancy in the motor.

Is there anything I should do to the tranny besides a rebuild? Corvette servo, shift kit? Or just bak to stock?

It would be a 700r4 if it is a stock 85 unit... I would just make sure that they give you a 88-93 unit that has all of the recommended updates (and auxilliary valve body). Other than that, it would be up to you as far as additional items... A corvette or billet 3-4 servo would improve things considerably with out much additional effort...

Sorry, it is a 700r4. I may be lucky though. Talking to the tranny guy, he doesn't think it sounds like I need a rebuild. Since I lost all gears at once, it may be something else. He will pull the pan Tuesday. Got my fingers crossed . I could use the money for other things!

Everyone here keeps saying that if you lose all gears at once that it is probably the governer gear that is bad. However, on my tranny that wasn't the case. I had to get a new tranny.
