There's no real alternative. THe only thing that will fit, bolt up, and work, is a V8 F-body (Camaro or Firebird) T-5. The ones out of S-trucks will not work.
It sucks I know, but that's the way it is. These cars are totally unique in that area.
Seems like I gave you the names of some of the junkyards I used to deal with in Memphis.... drive up there and check those guys out. Don't try calling them on the phone, it's usually a waste of time, and they'll charge you more if you do that.

I was told it isnt.. I ran it for over a year with 3rd and 4th synchs going out... and then it started leaking fluid... I had to refill it once a week... But... I thought hubby filled it one week and he thought I did and that week we ran over 1200 miles ...One morning it started making this aweful grinding noise.. I lost 1, 2, 3 ,5 and reverse....it will still go in fourth ..... so.. needless to say.. the gentlemen I talked to informed me the tranny was trash and that I had probably ruined the input shafts and all... I have noticed that the rebuild kit for one of these is pretty reasonable but I dont see that it includes the shaft... and I havent seen one advertised yet..
What do you think? is it rebuildable?

Gotta look into prices of parts and sometimes parts for manuals are difficult to fine (in comparison to automatics.) Try Hanlon motorsports. Gotta pay the piper sometimes; if ya break stuff, ya gotta fix it. I learned that when I replaced the reverse idler gear.
Well!.. WE got the tranny out... got it opened.. and found that the gear on the input shaft was TOAST... the front gear on the cluster gear was also gone... We already knew that 3rd and 4th synchros were bad but they looked a heck of a lot better than the input shaft gear... is it possible to replace that gear and just the first gear on the cluster?
We are right now puttin a th350 in her... we hit the snags though...thought the crossmember was going to mount perfect... it isnt... the we knew we had to get the driveshaft cut.. about 3 inches.....and the torque arm bracket.. we gotta get one of those... but all in all.. I think its going to be cheaper this way than rebuilding the T5.... Jmd... I really wasnt looking for a shotty way of gettin out of this.. As of tuesday.. my husband is unemployed.. thanks to our transportation problem... We are just looking for a fast way to get a vehicle and get his job back so we can afford to fix the problem correctly ...if that is understandable.. Your pay the piper remark was right.. I knew this tranny was going for a while.. shoulda paid him along time ago.. but ya know what they say.. put off today what you can do tomorrow....anyway... thanks for your help...
